I arranged to meet Rupert at Bristol parkway and give him a lift down to the campsite in Newquay for the weekend of “Run to the Sun” or if you had a bit of gaffer tape “RTTS 06”.
We all met in a pub in newquay for a pint to start the weekend off as we mean to continue, and then all drove up to the camp site to see what all the fuss was about.
Friday night was great, a few beers in the “luxury caravan” and off for a night in the town. We were having such a good time that we forgot to have dinner and ended up eating a pasty for tea… not the best way to start a night of beer. So a night ranging from a live folk band to a tent full of pilled up northerners pasted in a flash.
Queue next morning and a hangover from hell, with only 4 hours sleep (sleeping in the kiddy bed did not help)… after bullying Martin and Tim that they really, really wanted to go surfing, we drove down to the beach and slipped on our wet suits. After a ten minute jog and a bit of yoga we all had a practice on our board doing a bit of board boarding in the sea. After ½ an hour or so out we crawled, knackered and cold. We then got told how to “pop up” this looks really easy, do a push up, turn side ways and lead up on to your feet, easy my ass, and that was on the land. Anyway we all managed to get up, even if it was for 5 seconds.
Matthew turned up half way through the lesson, shame that he could not do it as I am sure that he would be very good at it!.
So after the lesson it was back to the site for another round of Stella before going into town for dinner. We finally managed to find some grub in a beer garden of a pub.
Another night of Rock / Cheese and trance came to a halt at 4:30. I was very happy that we were not camping as Luke said that he got back to his tent and found that the music started up again at 6am !!!
A great weekend, we might have to do another one when Matthew is on better form!
